Solid Sheds Teams Up with DIY SOS & Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen for Children in Need

Solid Sheds recently teamed up with Nick Knowles and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen for an ambitious build in Blackpool. The development was featured as part of the BBC’s DIY SOS: Million Pound Build (aired on 17/11/2016) in aid of the 2016 Children in Need campaign.

The project highlighted the difficulties faced by Britain’s 250,000 young carers who tend to their parents’ needs on a daily basis. Out-of-school respite, support, and activities are provided by the Blackpool Carers Trust; however, their existing centre was failing to meet demand. The Carers Trust, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and the team from DIY SOS were able to transform a neglected building and its overgrown grounds beyond recognition with funding received from Children in Need.

Whilst the development was underway, Solid Sheds received a phone call requesting our help and, within just 24 hours, we were able to build an artist studio and chill out area for the project. Andy would like to thank local businesses who were able to donate items, his own staff who were happy to get stuck in for free and also everybody else who gave up their time to volunteer and do their bit for an amazing cause.

The centre is now a bright, colourful and truly inspiring space, designed to suit the needs of young carers.
